During the second set of Serena Williams’ 6-1, 6-2 win over her sister Venus in the U.S. Open third round Friday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the large screen in the stadium flashed a shot of Colin Kaepernick watching the match from a luxury suite.

That drew the loudest ovation of the night, which was a significant sign of the kind of public support the former 49ers quarterback has in his fight for social justice.
